Dakota Johnson says she doesn’t care if people think her sheer dress is “too sexy.” “I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses and I wear them because they make me feel beautiful,” she said. Dakota Johnson has opened up about her decision to regularly wear sheer dresses on the red carpet.
When asked in her cover story for German Vogue’s November issue whether she ever worried whether a dress was “too sexy”, she replied: “I don’t really care. I can wear the most beautiful dresses and I wear them because I feel beautiful in them. Sometimes they look good on me. But then there are the ones I try on and they don’t suit me at all. It depends on the shape, the finish, the color, everything. So if I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, I said yes,” and of course I want to wear it! It’s fun to wear sexy dresses. ”
Over the past few months, Johnson has worn a variety of see-through looks. In September, she attended the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland wearing a custom blue sheer Gucci dress to accept the GoldenEye Award.
That same month, she wore another sheer Gucci dress to the Kering Foundation’s 4th Annual Caring for Women Dinner in New York City.
And back in May, she wore another sheer Gucci dress to the Kering Women in Motion Awards at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
Johnson credits her mother, actress Melanie Griffiths, with instilling self-love and body confidence in her from an early age. “My mother was very open about the topic of bodies,” she said. “She taught us how to take care of our bodies, how to love them, and that our bodies are beautiful.”
“I think that’s really important for young girls because they’ve always been told that they’re not good enough. And if you don’t have the woman you most admire from a young age telling you that you’re perfect and smart and special and strong and brave, it can really break your heart. It’s hard to re-teach yourself that love later on. That was a huge gift that she gave me.”
When she’s not on the red carpet, Dakota also talked about what her off-duty style is like. “Basically, my style is a kind of vintage meets The Row.”
She also detailed what she was wearing in this interview. “I still wear jeans and sweaters, but I always choose these clothes carefully. For example, this is a very well-cut Kite sweater. And I’m also very particular about the fit of my T-shirts. I want people to feel really good when they wear them. I love thinking about how to design clothes that make me feel like myself. And that’s just how I look at fashion, even when I’m dressing up for a red carpet. Sure, some dresses are extravagant, but they make me glow.” I feel comfortable there because I can be myself. ”
What are her favorite jeans? “I always love vintage Levi’s,” she said. “If you find a good pair of jeans, they’re real jeans, not processed ones. It’s a classic that always looks great. And I really like my Agolde jeans.” She also said her favorite sneakers are Adidas and Nike. “Adidas has slip-on sneakers with a cow print, and I really like them right now.”
