Hong Kong-based PCCW Media has confirmed Hulu as the U.S. home for its six-episode drama “The Season,” in partnership with SK Global.
The deal, signed earlier this month, comes ahead of the show’s international market debut on Mipcom, with Freemantle set to sell the title to buyers around the world with support from DeMaio Entertainment. Viu, which commissioned the project, will retain rights across 15 markets and stream the series as original programming.
SK Global, the production company behind “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Thai Cave Rescue,” and the Emmy Award-winning “Derry Crime,” developed the series in partnership with PCCW Media.
The drama takes place during Hong Kong’s summer social season and revolves around a group of wealthy people whose carefully maintained façade begins to crack when outsiders invade their world. The show promises a visually rich exploration of wealth, loyalty, and deceit, set against the backdrop of the city’s port culture.
The ensemble is led by Jessie Mei Lee, best known for Netflix’s Shadow and Bone, and three-time Golden Horse Award winner Karena Lam, a veteran of the Hong Kong film industry. Supporting them include Chris Pang of “Interior Chinatown,” Justin Chen of “Brothers Son,” and Yvonne Chapman, who appeared in “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Selina Jade and Toby Stevens round out the main cast.
Additional players include Rising Star of Asia Award 2025 winner Kōki, “Physical 100” season 2 star Lee Jae-yoon, and Competition Series winner Lyman Hoon. Guest appearances include Hong Kong pop idols Anson Lo from the boy band Mirror and Murph Yau from the girl group Color.
“We’re excited to stream ‘The Season’ on Hulu in the U.S. and partner with Fremantle for international distribution, bringing this intriguing, captivating and emotional ride to audiences around the world,” said Janice Lee, Managing Director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu. “Developed in collaboration with our production partner SK Global, the series immerses viewers in the vibrant energy of Hong Kong through stunning visuals, ensuring the show is authentic and relatable to audiences around the world.”
Chloe Dunn, Executive Vice President and Head of Television at SK Global, added, “‘The Season’ is a story with truly universal appeal, and we are excited to work with Hulu to bring it to audiences in the United States. As SK Global continues to expand its footprint around the world, this series represents the type of distinctive, premium storytelling we are proud to champion on the world stage.”
Behind the camera, creator and executive producer Yarun Tu has writing credits on NCIS: Hawaii and Woo Assassins, drawing on his experience co-producing Amazon Japan’s My Undead Yokai Girlfriend. Chilean filmmaker Marialie Rivas, whose recent work includes “The Jetty,” directed multiple episodes and serves as executive producer.
The producing team includes Lee and Agatha Lo representing PCCW Media, while the SK Global contingent consists of Dan, Matt Aragachi and Dylan Tarason.
