During this week’s live segment on Today, Craig Melvin accidentally revealed that Jenna Bush Hager will be making a cameo appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2.
According to People magazine, the NBC co-host derailed Bush Hager’s incredible career during Wednesday’s episode of the popular morning news and talk show.
“By the way, do you know how great that movie is going to be?” Melvin, 46, asked his co-hosts while discussing the upcoming “The Devil Wears Prada” sequel. “Do you know how? JBH is in it!”
But Bush Hager, 44, didn’t seem ready to share the news of his exciting cameo.
“I don’t know if you were supposed to drop that bomb, but if you did…” she replies to Melvin, then walks off-screen speechless.
Savannah Guthrie, who just returned to the Today show on Monday after an extended absence due to her mother’s disappearance, also joined in, joking about the cameo incident.
“This is a live broadcast,” she reminded her co-hosts. “I can’t tell Craig anything!”
Melvin went on to explain that he thought Bush Hager’s cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 was “common knowledge,” to which Al Roker responded, “It’s now!”
“Cut it for another feed!” Melvin suggested. “I’m sorry, JBH-san.”
But the exchange didn’t end there, as Guthrie joked to the audience that since Melvin had already shared Bush Hager’s secrets, he should “read[his]diary.”
“Bad!” Melvin said when asked if there were any other surprises he wanted to reveal.
Representatives for Melvin and Bush Hager did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released in theaters on May 1, nearly 20 years after the original was released in June 2006.
Meryl Streep (Miranda Priestly), Anne Hathaway (Andy Sachs), Emily Blunt (Emily Charlton) and Stanley Tucci (Nigel Kipling) are all set to reprise their roles.
Anna Wintour, who is rumored to have been the model for Streep’s character Miranda Priestly, told Vogue in a recent interview, “When I heard the rumors that this new movie might be made, I called Meryl and asked her if it was true. I was hoping she would let me know if it was okay.”
“She hadn’t read the script yet, so she said she’d call me back, and that’s what she did. She read the script,” Winter, 76, continued. “She called me back and said, ‘Anna, I think it’s going to be okay.'” She didn’t tell me much about what was happening in the movie, but I trusted her implicitly. ”
As for Bush Hager, she dressed up as Wintour and Guthrie as Miranda Priestly on the annual Today show Halloween episode that aired in October.
