The Playmaker will begin international sales of its animated feature “The Unicorn That Said No” at the European Film Market in Berlin from February 12th to 18th. The company plans to release a first look teaser at the event. Warner Bros. plans to release the film in Germany in the fourth quarter of this year.
The film is based on the best-selling children’s book written by Marc-Uwe Kling and illustrated by Astrid Henn. This book has been translated into 27 languages.
“In the forest of hearts, a little, sweep, swap, swap, a cute unicorn is born. But even though everyone loves lilacs so much and always gives them sweet lucky clovers, this little creature doesn’t act like a unicorn at all. It just keeps saying no, so soon the family starts calling it uNOcorn.”
“One day, uNOcorn escapes from the world of cotton candy and goes anywhere. Along the way, he unexpectedly meets a raccoon (HUHcoon) who doesn’t listen to anything, a guard dog (SOWHATchdog) who doesn’t seem to care about anything, and a princess (PrinceYES) who always talks back. These four make a great team, because even though they’re stubborn, it’s more fun to be together.”
The film will be directed by Studio Soi and Kling. Produced by Uwe Schott and Nicole Kellerhals of X-Filme Creative Pool with Steffen Schier, Margret Mackuth and Julia Hayungs of Studio Soi and Warner Bros. Film Productions in Germany.
It is supported by BKM, FFA, the Baden-Württemberg Media Association and the German Central Association.
Gamze Selick, Sales and Acquisitions Manager at The Playmaker, said: “We are very excited to add ‘The Unicorn That Said No’ to our lineup. This book has been a worldwide hit and has already brought joy to so many children and their families. We can’t wait to see it brought to the big screen. We think it will be a super cute and super fun adventure for all ages.”
