Coco Jones brought icon status to her 2026 Super Bowl look.
Jones, who sang the Black national anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” before kickoff, looked sporty in a white nylon jacket and skirt by Carl Karni.
The two-piece look was actually an homage to the late Whitney Houston and her iconic “The Star-Spangled Banner” performance at the 1991 Super Bowl.
Jones’ high-waisted skirt featured a vintage track pants-like drawstring and elastic waistband, narrowing the volume of her bubble-hem miniskirt.
But that’s not all. A white train wrapped around her legs and snaked down her frame, spilling into the puddle below the platform she was standing on.
Jones’ cropped bomber featured stylish corset detailing around the bodice, and crystal-encrusted red, black and green stripes down the arms and chest.
The selection of songs, with colors representing the Pan-African flag and important hymns dating back to the civil rights movement, were both particularly poignant during Black History Month.
Meanwhile, Houston wore a Le Coq Sportif tracksuit 35 years ago, paired with Nike sneakers.
Jones, like Houston, completed her look with a wide white headband in her hair.
Additionally, the violinist who sat behind the singer during her performance wore a zip-up version of the look with coordinating pants, transporting viewers back in time.
The 28-year-old singer spoke to Entertainment Tonight before the big game, saying he was “very excited about[his]outfit” and that it “pays homage to Whitney Houston.”
She called Kani the “godfather of hip-hop” and hoped he would help her realize her ideas. Hoping to share the spotlight with the artist behind this look, she added, “I look forward to him having his moment with this.”
“I hope this is another historic moment,” she laughed.
Jones, who did a soundcheck earlier in the day, teased a game-tie look by opting for an all-white tracksuit with “Coco Jones, Super Bowl 2026” emblazoned on the back.
