Cinema United has extended CEO and President Michael O’Leary’s contract for an additional five years.
Since joining the organization in May 2023, Mr. O’Leary has played a key role in promoting the positive economic and cultural impact of movie theaters in cities and towns around the world. Mr. O’Leary has overseen the adoption of the Cinema United brand to consolidate and strengthen the single-screen business’ support to the world’s largest international theatrical circuit, with a focus on theatrical exhibitions.
“It has been one of the great honors of my professional career to represent the great people who own and operate theaters across the United States and around the world, and I am energized by the opportunities that lie ahead in this iconic industry,” O’Leary said in a press release. “I would like to thank Chairman Mike Bowers, outgoing Chairman Bob Bagbee, and the Cinema United Executive Committee for this opportunity. I would also like to thank my dedicated colleagues at Cinema United. Our success is a direct result of their hard work and creativity, and I am excited to continue my work supporting and advocating on behalf of our industry.”
“Michael has proven to be a tireless and passionate advocate for the exhibition industry,” said Mike Bowers, Chairman of the Cinema United Board of Directors and CEO of Harkins Theaters. “Michael’s extensive experience in the film industry and on Capitol Hill, and his focus on unity, strategy and continuous improvement, have earned him the trust and respect of studio partners as well as members of all sizes. The next five years present unique and exciting opportunities for our industry. We are thrilled to have the long-term stability and steady hands of Michael and the talented Cinema United team to represent us during this period.”
Cinema United released a report in September highlighting that the domestic film industry spent more than $1.5 billion on theatrical reinvestment in the past 12 months.
