Christina Huck says that the whirlwind romance with Josh Hall had a rocky moment long before he said, “I’ll do that.”
The HGTV star and her third husband met in February 2021 and got engaged that August. However, Hark didn’t say “yes” when he first asked her to do so, she reveals in this week’s People’s cover story.
“When he first proposed, I said no and he threw the ring into the pool,” revealed the 42-year-old Huck. “It was probably the number one red flag.”
“I don’t think anyone has heard of it,” she added. “Sorry. It’s true.”
Hall decorated the pool terrace of Hark’s former home in Dana Point, California, and popped questions, but the timing was off, she recalls.

“Even back then, we weren’t doing well. When things were good, they were good, but I felt like I wasn’t completely prepared, so I just said, ‘This isn’t the right time,'” she shares. “I don’t remember exactly what I said, but he decorated the patio and threw it into the pool.”
Hall’s representative, 44, shared in a statement to people that “Josh doesn’t know what Christina is talking about.”

Despite the bump, Hall and Hark end up getting engaged six months after they started dating. She checked the news on Instagram in September 2021. Three photos showed the pair enjoying a sunset dinner in Los Cabos, Mexico, but two photos showed the diamond rings.
They tied the knot secretly in October 2021 a month later. They did not publicly reveal that they were married for another six months in April 2022.

“Speed courtship and all of those things, that was something I was used to, and it didn’t feel right,” she says she learned a lot from the end of her third marriage.
“I’ve learned to protect myself, my children, my finances, and I don’t really think I’ve learned how grateful I am for peace, freedom, quiet and cold up until this divorce,” she shares.

After the divorce was finalized in September, the designer focused on filming season 2 of her hit show, filming the flip along with her first husband, 44-year-old Tarek El Moussa, and wife Heather Rae El Moussa (38).
And although she has a new guy in her life, CEO Chris Lalacca has been dating since fall 2024, says there are no more wedding bells on the horizon.
“We don’t even discuss getting married. We don’t discuss getting engaged,” she says. “We’re slowing things down. I promise.”
