Chris Aronson left his post at Paramount, where he served as president of domestic distribution for six years.

The exit for Aronson on December 1st brought several important executive shuffles in the studio following Paramount’s merger with Skydance. Aronson made the announcement ahead of the Autumn Film United Summit, which will be held in the studio lot for the exhibition members on Tuesday evening.

“Everyone knows that domestic distribution is a locomotive that drives theater trains. This team represents the proud history of Paramount Photography in every best possible way, gaining the respect of exhibitors and other distributors,” Aronson wrote to staff in a note. “I always feel part of this family. Wherever the next chapter takes me, I support you for success because I know you will continue to carry on the exemplary work you are doing.”

A respected executive, Aronson is known for his humor, dull stories, deep connections to the exhibition industry and costume appearances at Cinema Cons. During the run at Paramount, Aronson directed theatrical releases of hits such as “Top Gun: Maverick.” This is the best-selling film in studio history: Sonic the Hedgehog and Smile.

Before joining Paramount, Aronson was the domestic distribution chief at 20th Century Fox, and Walt Disney Company purchased the studio in 2018. At Fox, he led the development of blockbusters such as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Life of Pi,” “Avatar,” and “Deadpool.” Aronson previously worked for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Distribution Company and Rentrak Corporation. He has launched the Theatre Division, which provides comprehensive box office collection, analysis and reporting for the film industry.

“I believe more in the power of theatrical experience than ever. If we are distributing, and we continue to work with our exhibition partners without fear of being agents of change, we can continue to move forward with the film run,” Aronson finished his notes before quoting the Titanic bandleader. “To paraphrase Wallace Hartley, that was the privilege of playing with you.”
