“Saturday Night Live” star Chloe Fineman faced intense scrutiny over an unexpected story in a Vanity Fair video in which she made a 6-year-old boy wear his pants while working at a summer camp as a teenager. Her SNL co-stars expressed shock at the storyline, which ended with Feynman being fired from the campaign, but Vanity Fair removed their reactions and some of the disturbing details from the video.
The video, titled “Test How Well the ‘SNL’ Cast Members Know Each Other,” begins with Feynman asking her co-star to guess the job she was fired from and later rehired for. Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla, Jane Wickline, and James Austin Johnson brainstormed ideas such as Feynman being fired as a restaurant hostess, but they did not anticipate the story she was going to tell.
“I was fired as a camp counselor,” Feynman said in the video, explaining that she was 16 years old at the time. “I had the boy put on his pants. He was always lifting my shirt. That was another time. He was like, ‘Hey, can I give you a hug?’ Then I went to hug him and he lifted my shirt, like it was his penis. And I thought, “I’m going to give it back.” So, while we were hiking, I said, “Hey, Ollie, go look over there.” It’s a hawk. ‘He saw that, I pulled his pants down, and I was fired. ”
However, the Vanity Fair video was edited and deleted, with Feynman mentioning that the boy was 6 years old and “had a little Ding-A-Ling in it.” The original video also showed Padilla telling Feynman, “Oh, honey, I think you’re on a list somewhere.”
“He didn’t have any pants on, and a huge school bus passed by,” Feynman says in the original video, but not in the new version. There was also a shot of “SNL” cast members holding their breath and covering their faces, which was removed from the original. Many people on social media were shocked by Feynman’s story, later pointing out that the Vanity Fair video had been edited to soften the impact. Variety has reached out to Vanity Fair for comment.
