Chloe East has been cast as the female lead in Hulu’s new mystery series Foster-Dade.
She will play Annabeth Whittaker, a student at an elite East Coast boarding school called Kennedy. According to the official character description, “Annabeth moves through Kennedy with an inexplicable spell that leaves boys under her spell before they realize what has happened. And Foster is no exception. She takes Foster under her wing, and their chemistry is undeniable. But beneath her wit and warmth, there is something guarded, secrets and sorrows carefully hidden. Whatever binds them together may be what tears them apart.”
The series is based on Nash Jenkins’ 2023 novel Foster Dade Explores the Universe and will “explore privilege, scandal, sexuality, and masculinity amidst the rise of social media, millennial anxiety, and pharmaceuticals,” according to the logline. In the book, an anonymous narrator moves into the Kennedy dorm room where Foster Dade once lived. Dade transferred to a boarding school in 2008, but was later expelled due to a scandal. The narrator investigates it over many years.
East is best known for starring in A24’s 2024 horror film The Heretic, in which she and Sophie Thatcher play Mormon missionaries opposite Hugh Grant’s recluse. Her other notable credits include the HBO Max series “Generation” (2021), the Steven Spielberg film “The Fabelmans” (2022), and Kogonada’s “Big Bold Beautiful Journey” (2025). East will next be seen in Hayley Gates’ Atropia, Cornel Mundruzo’s At the Sea, and Chandler Rebak’s Roommates. She is repped by WME, Link Entertainment, Vault Entertainment, and Felker Tocek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan.
