Statement from Lena Waithe:
“When I created Chi, it wasn’t just about making a TV show. It was about owning our stories and telling the stories with truth, care, nuance and complexity. It was about showing the soul of the South.
After a lot of reflection, we decided to finish Chi in season 8. For our stories and characters, that’s right. I am committed to providing a final season worthy of our Kai family.
Building a platform for artists to shine has been an honor in my life. Not just in front of the camera, but behind the scenes. It is a great honor to helm the longest-running black drama on television, and that is something I would not underestimate.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped build this world, to our writers, actors and crew, to those who give so much of their own to do this show.
As for what the future holds, I’m still planning on telling stories, building communities and creating spaces for all of us to see. ”
The deadline first reported the end of the series.
