Cheryl Hines has come forward with allegations that she and husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sold Chelsea Handler a “toxic” $6 million home in Los Angeles.
The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” alum admitted during an upcoming episode of his podcast “Fearless” that the comedian’s claims “are actually not true” and that he “questions the timing” of the comedian’s claims, according to People.
“She bought this house five years ago and now she’s complaining about it,” Hines said. “I don’t know that she gets a lot of sympathy from people. She buys a $6 million house.”
“And we also talked about how she felt cheated and that we tried to sell her the house, which was her word ‘toxic,’ which also doesn’t make sense,” Hines, 60, continued.
The “Waitress” star claimed that when she first bought the house, she contacted Handler, 51, and told the producer to call her if she needed anything.
“When she moved in, we wrote her a personal note just letting her know how much we loved the house,” she explained, noting that Handler also expressed a desire for her to have a “great life in[that]house.”
“I left my phone number,” Hines said. “I mean, I don’t know if we were trying to drop her a toxic house. I wouldn’t have left my phone number.”
The “RV” star speculated that Handler’s claims stemmed from her wanting attention, claiming she “probably enjoys teasing” Kennedy, 72.
“So what are you going to do? She’s probably trying to get a laugh, and she’s probably trying to get some likes,” Hines surmised.
A representative for Handler could not be reached for comment to Page Six.
Earlier this month, the “This Means War” star claimed on an episode of the “Dear Chelsea” podcast that he couldn’t move into his Brentwood home for five years.
She described the property as a “mess” and said problems with the home were missed during the inspection.
“It was a disaster. I didn’t know it was happening because everything was kept secret,” Handler claimed, claiming that a contractor told her the house was “the most toxic environment” and had to undergo two years of renovations.
“Cheryl Hines left me a note that said, ‘Chelsea, if there’s anything we can do, please let me know,'” the ‘Chelsea Lately’ alum said. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, what about the af-king foundation? That’s what you do for me. I’m not mad about it or anything, anyway. I’m totally done.'”
Sources told Page Six that Handler used the opportunity to “smear and discredit” Hines and Kennedy, who married in 2014.
“The problems with the property were first discovered when Chelsea’s team began knocking down walls for a major renovation,” the source said. “It’s an old house, so she had every opportunity to check it out.”
