Charlie Sheen turns 60 on September 3rd and knows he’s years behind him than before him – that’s fine. However, he looks back at some of them in two new projects: his debut memoir The Book of Sheen (September 9) and a two-part Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen (September 10).
“That’s not that I’m setting the record straight or correcting all my past mistakes,” Sheen says of releasing both projects at once.
“Most of my 50s have been spent apologizing to those I hurt,” he says. “I also didn’t want to write from where I was a victim, I wasn’t, I own everything I did.
Below, in an exclusive excerpt from the book of Sheen, he recalls one such story from a party with Brat Pack.

I was tagging Emilio and his group of newly renowned fellows. They were the All-Star lineup of Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson and Andrew McCarthy. Rob’s fiance, Melissa Gilbert, was also a stable presence. I rolled alongside the “It” group, including the most popular films of the moment, the Breakfast Club, St. Elmoffrey, and “Outsider” of the Outsider. As a group, they wouldn’t have been great for me. It was the gauntlet of hysteria they incited that I was always looking for shelter.
As soon as we leave the limo, I’m relegated to the role of stray dogs from their screaming fans and raise the rear for their crowd part, the bar hopping rumble. The evenings always started at Hard Rock Cafe, then walked the path beyond the scenery of popular hot spots. Seeing the crowd Emilio steering, I felt so small and left behind, redefine what a rich, decadent bathhouse in the limelight would look like.
Chris was a passenger for much of the night. We were Oakmen on the same unknown boat, providing each other with cover and comfort when they needed it most. All that changed when the footless from his film came out and was a huge hit, sending him overnight on the other side of the velvet rope. It hit me the hardest – my best friend in my life was suddenly one of them. I wanted him to be ready for it and to know in depth that he wasn’t.

As those nights escalated, I remained an invisible valet carrying bags for the masses hypnotized chunks of celebrities. I wanted to be told the question once by their baby sukado. It took me patience that I hadn’t developed yet, knowing that it wouldn’t happen until my famous film had a line around the block. Being in the crash of LA’s insane mid-88 club scene with Rob Lowe and a pack of gorgeous gals was like a wreck with a fat guy.
Feeling like an afterthought in those vibrant environments, it set me on fire that you can see from f—n. My inner bear was officially protruding.
