Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are the latest romantic crossover between Hollywood and politics (rumored), but they’re not the first.
In the past, some stars have fallen in love with some of the world’s most influential policymakers. From Sheryl Lee Ralph’s decades-long marriage to Pennsylvania Sen. Vincent Hughes, to Rosario Dawson’s romance with Cory Booker, to Montel Williams’ brief fling with former Vice President Kamala Harris in the early 2000s, see which Hollywood stars have been romantically involved with politicians.

In late September, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau were photographed showing off some major PDA while sailing on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara.
Rumors first surfaced that the “I Kissed a Girl” singer was dating Canada’s former prime minister. In July, they were spotted walking their dog before dining together at Le Villon in Montreal.
Trudeau was then seen attending Perry’s concert at Montreal’s Bell Center later that month.
Their romance was largely kept under wraps until they were spotted making out on a boat, but a source tells PEOPLE that Trudeau has been “pursuing” her since July, adding: “He even flew to California to meet her during a break from his tour. They hit it off easily. She finds him attractive. He’s a very polite guy.”

Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph married Pennsylvania State Sen. Vincent Hughes in 2005. The two met through mutual friends and began dating in the early 2000s.
Due to their demanding careers, the couple has a unique marriage. We meet once every two weeks when Ralph travels from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. However, because of the distance, the two of them definitely feel nostalgic. The two renewed their vows in August.
“I’m very lucky. The man I’m married to is Sen. Vincent Hughes of Pennsylvania’s 7th Senate District,” she told PEOPLE in January. “When you love someone, you realize he’s not leaving his career. He’s not leaving Philadelphia. I’m not leaving Hollywood.”
So, she says, “Every two weeks we (visit) each other…When I go to see him, I love seeing him. When it’s time to go home, I’m like, ‘Bye. See you again.’ I tell you, life is good. ”

Former talk show host Montel Williams dated former Vice President Kamala Harris in the ’90s.
Decades later, Williams defended her when she first ran for president in 2019 when her opponents tried to weaponize old photos.
“@KamalaHarris and I dated briefly about 20 years ago when we were both single. So what?” Williams wrote to X. “I have a lot of respect for Sen. Harris. I wonder if the same article would have been written about her dating history if she had been a male candidate.”
Harris married Doug Emhoff in 2014.
Rosario Dawson and Senator Cory Booker
After months of speculation, the Luke Cage and Rent actress confirmed in March 2019 that she was dating the New Jersey senator who is running for president.
While walking through Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., Dawson was asked by TMZ if there was any truth to reports that they were in a relationship.
“Yes,” she said with a laugh. “Yes, that’s true.”
“It’s been great so far,” the 40-year-old actress added, praising the 49-year-old politician. “He’s a great human being. It’s good to spend time with him as much as we can.”
The two broke up in 2022. Booker recently announced his engagement to Alexis Lewis.

Back in the ’60s, Justin’s father Pierre Trudeau also dated another American singer, Barbra Streisand.
In her 2023 memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” Ms. Streisand revealed that she first met Mr. Trudeau at the 1968 premiere of “Funny Girl.” And while she was infatuated, their romance fizzled out simply because Streisand “got a little scared by the intensity of this relationship.” There was also a big age difference, as Prime Minister Trudeau was 50 years old and she was 27.
The two remained friends until his death in 2000.

Kim Cattrall also dated Pierre in the 80s. Not much is known about their relationship, but the Sex and the City actress did have a hilarious moment in a 60 Minutes flashback when Justin mistook her for Justin’s mother Margaret.
“I have a son who is the Prime Minister of Canada and I couldn’t be more proud,” she wrote to X.
Sandra Lee and Governor Andrew Cuomo
The Food Network star and the New York governor were together for 14 years, but announced in September 2019 that they were going their separate ways.
“In recent years, we have realized that our lives have taken different directions and our romantic relationship has turned into a deep friendship,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We continue to be a family…otherwise our personal lives are private and we will have no further comment.”
Their breakup comes months after the couple listed a six-bedroom mansion called Lily Pond. At the time, Ms. Lee denied reports that her relationship with Mr. Cuomo had ended, writing on Facebook, “Andrew and I are still very much together.” …We keep our lives as private as possible. ”
A source familiar with the couple told PEOPLE at the time that the home sale was part of a larger “downsizing” and that Lee was focused on other projects.

The Oscar winner was married to political activist and former California senator Tom Hayden from 1973 to 1990, until she died in October 2016 at the age of 76. This is the second marriage for both of them, and they have a son, Troy Garrity.
In 2017, Fonda organized a memorial with Garrity and Hayden’s widow, Barbara Williams, to commemorate Hayden’s “six decades of dedication to peace, justice, and democracy,” and to remember her late husband and their 17 years of marriage, according to Fonda’s website.
“The day before he died, he was able to whisper to me that seeing people willing to die for their beliefs changed him forever,” Fonda wrote. “And it was ‘forever.’ He never stopped trying to make democracy a reality.”
Kate Mulgrew & Tim Hagan
The Orange Is the New Black and Star Trek actress was married to Ohio politician Hagan from 1999 to 2013.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Hagan, 73, was “the love of her life,” but “he left her unexpectedly.” The divorce was a result of their careers going in different directions, she later revealed in an interview.
Mulgrew, 64, told the newspaper: “Every separation has taken a toll.” “Nobody was bad. We are us. I was passionate about my career and he was very important to me as commissioner in Cleveland. He has roots in Cleveland. I’m not sure I fully understood or respected the depth of that.”

The journalist and daughter of the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, a member of the Kennedy political dynasty, filed for divorce in 2011 after learning that her husband, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, had fathered a child with his housekeeper.
The former couple have four children: Christopher, Patrick, Christina, and Katherine.
In September 2016, five years after her parents separated, Katherine told PEOPLE TV, “My family has brought us all together and stuck up for each other.” “We’re all very, very close and we love each other. Just because our parents aren’t necessarily together doesn’t mean anything or affect our family in any way.”
The divorce was finalized 10 years later.

Before the Hollywood legend died of an overdose in 1962 at the age of 36, Monroe’s relationship with former President John F. Kennedy had been the subject of speculation following her iconic “Happy Birthday” performance on Kennedy’s 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden months before Monroe’s death.
“What happened to Marilyn Monroe is one of the great mysteries of the 20th century,” her biographer James Spada told PEOPLE in 2012.
Spada believes there is no truth to the conspiracy theory that the Kennedy family is responsible for Monroe’s death, but said, “It is clear that Marilyn had sexual relations with both Bobby and Jack,” using nicknames for the president and his brother Robert.
According to Spada, actor Peter Lawford introduced Monroe to the president in 1954, but grew tired of her and passed her on to his brother. According to Spada, this happened in the spring of 1962.

The iconic actress and dancer was married to Khan, a senior official and United Nations official, for four years, but they divorced in the 1950s when their daughter, Princess Yasmine Aga Khan, was three years old.
“My earliest memories of my mother and father together were when I was eight or nine years old,” Princess Yasmin recalled in a cover story she wrote for PEOPLE magazine in 1987, in honor of her late mother, who died at age 68 from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. “There were always good feelings between them, and even though their marriage didn’t work out, they had a really good relationship.”
Yasmin added: “I was 10 years old when my father died in a car accident in France. His death was a deep emotional shock for my mother. That’s probably when the first symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease started.”
elizabeth taylor and john warner

Elizabeth Taylor met her sixth husband, John Warner, on a blind date in July 1976. The politician had been asked to accompany Taylor to the bicentenary dinner with Queen Elizabeth II at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., and sparks soon flew.
They got engaged that September and married in December.
Taylor had no trouble fitting into Warner’s Virginia farm life, but when Warner became a senator in 1979, she had a hard time adjusting to being a politician’s wife.
Taylor told the New York Times in 2002, “He knows he wasn’t the love of his life, and I know I wasn’t the love of his life. But we loved each other.” “We got along very well until he decided to become a politician. Then he married a senator.”
Taylor eventually divorced Warner in 1982.
