CBS News has scrapped a “60 Minutes” segment featuring Peter Attia after a newly announced contributor was named more than 1,800 times in the latest Jeffrey Epstein file dump.
The segment, which first aired in October, featured a conversation between Attia and correspondent Norah O’Donnell. The song was scheduled to be included in a rebroadcast of “60 Minutes” during Sunday’s Super Bowl game, Variety has confirmed.
This comes as CBS News chief Bari Weiss faces a decision on whether to cut ties with Attia, a physician and longevity expert, just one week after announcing him (and 18 others) as contributors to the news network.
Based on email exchanges published in Epstein’s files, it is clear that Attia maintained a relationship with the sex offender long after she faced human trafficking and prostitution charges. In 2015, he wrote to Epstein that “the biggest problem with being friends with you” is that “I can’t relate to your soul even though the life you lead is so outrageous.” In 2016, Attia wrote to Epstein’s assistant, “When I don’t see him, I go into Japanese encephalitis withdrawal symptoms.” His remarks sparked intense backlash on social media.
On February 2, Attia released a lengthy apology on social media, calling her relationship with Epstein, who passed away in 2019, “embarrassing.” He called the emails “embarrassing, dry, and inexcusable,” but insisted, “1. I was not involved in any criminal activity. 2. My interactions with Epstein had nothing to do with Epstein’s sexual abuse or exploitation of anyone. 3. I have never been on his plane or been on any of his planes.” I live on an island and never attend sex parties. ”
