Oscar and Tony Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to star in the psychological thriller Cupid, playing a marriage counselor whose methods push a fractured relationship into increasingly dangerous territory.
The film is written by the Van Dyke brothers (Don’t Worry Darling) and directed by Tate Taylor (Ma, The Girl on the Train, The Help).
“Cupid” follows a couple whose relationship is on the rocks, and they spend a weekend trying to repair their relationship at the home of a seemingly kind but unconventional marriage counselor (Zeta-Jones). What begins as a hopeful endeavor quickly takes a dark turn as her methods grow crueler and more dangerous.
Filming is scheduled for late summer or early fall 2026 in John Norris’ Natchez location, and Taylor will serve as producer alongside Ryan Donnell Smith.
“Is this movie Cupid? I’m telling you…you might never want to go to counseling again,” Taylor said. “Or maybe you will, if you can handle it. I’m excited to be on this journey with Catherine. I couldn’t think of a better artist to bring this unique thriller to life.”
Upgrade begins international sales on EFM. CAA Media Finance, which arranged the film’s financing, is handling U.S. distribution rights.
“‘Cupid’ brings together incredible talent on both sides of the camera,” said Upgrade’s Jonathan Kear. “This is a smart, restrained genre film with real scale in the market, from a global star and a director with a history of consistently successful audience-driven thrillers, and we’re thrilled to be releasing it on EFM.”
Zeta-Jones is repped by UTA. Taylor by CAA and Richter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Sikora & Clark. and WME’s Van Dykes.
