Catherine O’Hara’s family will hold a “private celebration of her life” following her death at the age of 71 on Friday.
The actress, known for her roles in the first two “Home Alone” films and the television series “Schitt’s Creek,” died in Los Angeles after a short illness.
O’Hara’s team announced the official death to Page Six, confirming that a “private celebration of life” will be held in the near future by her family, including her husband of 33 years, Beau Welch, and sons Matthew and Luke.
The comedian was taken to a Los Angeles hospital in “serious” condition early Friday morning, where he later died, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The cause of O’Hara’s death has not been disclosed, but she suffered from a rare medical condition called dextrocardia.
The “SCTV” alum last appeared in public at Apple TV+’s Primetime Emmy Party in Los Angeles in September 2025, where she celebrated her show “The Studio” with Seth Rogen.
Rogen paid tribute to O’Hara on Instagram on Friday following her passing. He writes: “I really don’t know what to say…When I first met O’Hara, I told her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever seen on screen.”
“‘Home Alone’ was the movie that made me want to make movies. It was an absolute honor to work with her. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, and generous… It made me want to make a show worthy of her.”
This is just devastating. “We are all lucky to live in a world with her in it,” he continued.
O’Hara’s Home Alone co-star Macaulay Culkin also paid a touching tribute to his on-screen mother, saying, “I knew there was still time. I wanted more.”
“I wanted to sit in the chair next to you. I could hear your voice,” he continued. “But there was so much more I wanted to say. I love you. See you again.”
O’Hara’s “Beetlejuice” and “Schitt’s Creek” co-stars also reacted to her death hours after her death.
