Catherine O’Hara was last seen smiling broadly just four months before her tragic death.
The “Schitt’s Creek” actress was last photographed on Sept. 14 at Apple TV+’s Primetime Emmy Party at the popular Isabel restaurant in Los Angeles.
She wore a floor-length black gown for the occasion. The photos showed the star smiling for the camera as she walked the red carpet at the high-profile Hollywood event.
She attended the star-studded party with her husband Beau Welch, an Oscar- and Emmy-nominated production designer.
Welch posed for photos alongside his wife on the carpet wearing a classic black tuxedo.
She married Welch in April 1992, five years after they met on the set of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice in 1987.
Welch appeared at the event to support his wife, who was nominated for a 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Patti Lee on Apple TV+’s “The Studio.”
Mr. O’Hara died Friday. She was 71 years old.
Her agency CAA confirmed the “Shaw Awards” actress’ death in a statement: “We are saddened to announce the death of Catherine O’Hara.”
Officials said in a statement that O’Hara died “after a brief illness.”
Hours before her death, the actress was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital in “serious” condition. Emergency crews responded to a call at O’Hara’s Brentwood home at 4:48 a.m. Friday, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson said.
Her cause of death is unknown at this time.
Ms O’Hara is survived by her husband and two sons, Matthew (31) and Luke (29).
The actress first became famous when she appeared on the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV, which started in 1976 and ran until 1984.
In 1988, she starred as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice alongside Winona Ryder and Alec Baldwin.
She then became famous for playing Macaulay Culkin’s mother in the ‘Home Alone’ series.
In 2015, she returned to television as Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek,” which gave her career a new lease of life. In 2020, she won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for this role.
