Close friends and family of Catherine O’Hara gathered to bid farewell to the comedy icon at a private memorial service over the weekend, two weeks after her death.
Actress Kelly Lynch gave fans a look at the funeral brochure held at St. Martin of Tours Church in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 14th.
Lynch, 67, posted on Instagram on Monday, along with a photo of the booklet: “Rest in peace, my darling Katherine.”
The “Roadhouse” star also quoted author Raymond Carver in the emotional post.
“And yet, did you get what you wanted in this life? I got it,” Lynch wrote. “So what did you want? To call yourself loved, to feel loved on earth.”
O’Hara passed away on January 30 at her home in Los Angeles after a short illness, her agency confirmed in a statement to Page Six. She was 71 years old.
Her team informed Page Six of the official death and confirmed that a “private celebration of life” would be held by her family.
Page Six has exclusively learned that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call to the “Beetlejuice” star’s Brentwood home at around 4:48 a.m. after she experienced “difficulty breathing.”
Mr O’Hara was taken to hospital in a “serious” condition.
On February 9, more than a week after O’Hara’s tragic death, it was revealed that she had died from a blood clot in her lung. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health listed her immediate cause of death as pulmonary embolism and rectal cancer as the underlying cause.
The newspaper also claimed that O’Hara was cremated according to her death certificate and that her husband received her body.
The SCTV alum last appeared in public at the 2025 Angel Awards held at the Proper Hotel Santa Monica in Los Angeles in October of this year.
O’Hara looked as slender as ever when posing for photos with her husband on the red carpet, but guests at the ceremony admitted that she “looked very slender” during the event.
“But she seemed to be in great spirits and was a very friendly, cheerful and lovely person,” a source told the Daily Mail.
O’Hara was reportedly scheduled to film Season 2 of Seth Rogen’s Apple TV hit The Studio, but canceled it just days before her death.
According to The Sun, her schedule was ultimately “restructured” to “focus on non-role scenes” to address “personal issues”.
“It was little known that she had health issues and major issues,” a source told the magazine.
Following the news of her shocking death, countless celebrities and co-stars paid tribute to the beloved Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress.
Eugene Levy, who worked with O’Hara on several projects during their more than 50-year friendship, began his eulogy by admitting, “Words do not seem to be enough to express the sense of loss I feel today.”
“I had the pleasure of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over 50 years,” he said in an emotional statement. “From my beginnings on stage in The Second City, to SCTV, films with Chris Guest, and six glorious years on Schitt’s Creek, I have valued our working relationships, but most of all, we have valued our friendships.”
“And I’m going to miss her when she’s gone,” Levy, 79, added. “My heart goes out to Beau, Matthew, Luke and the entire O’Hara family.”
Macaulay Culkin, who played O’Hara’s son in the first two Home Alone films, also paid tribute to the late actor and comedian with his own touching eulogy.
“Mom, I thought there was still time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in the chair next to you. I heard you,” Culkin, 45, wrote on Instagram.
“But there was so much more I wanted to say,” he added. “I love you. See you again.”
