Cate Blanchett’s latest film, “Indie Auther Jim Jalmuch’s Father Mother Mother Brother,” premiered in a five-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday night.
Blanchett plays Vicki Creeps and Vicki Creeps in the slice of life story of three different families who glowed positively when applause roared at the Saragrand Theater. As the credits rolled, director Jalmusch stopped to give each of his major women, including Blanchett, Creep, Charlotte Ramling, Maim Bialik and India Moore, their respective women. Luka Sabbat represented the men in the film at the premiere as Adam Driver and Tom Waits, who play father and son in the film, were unable to attend. After five minutes of applause, the director nodded to his cast and they began to put it out of the theater.
The film is a triumph in a row, following three separate stories set in different countries, revolving around adult children, slightly distant parents, and each other’s relationships. The first part, “father,” is in the northeastern United States, “mother,” is held in Dublin, Ireland, and “sister and siblings” are held in Paris, France.
The premier marks Jarmusch’s first mark on Lido, the first time in 22 years since his debut with “Coffee & Cigarette” at the festival in 2003. Jarmusch released many films in the closet, including “The Dead Do Do Die” in 2019, which took place at the opening night.
The producers of “My Father’s Sisters and Brothers” are Charles Gillibert (“Annett”), Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan and Athira Sari Youth. The film was co-produced by Saint Laurent Prods Ireland’s Richard Bolger and Hale Mary’s Conor Barry with Jarmusch’s Badjetlag and Gillibert’s CG Cinema. The film was also supported by Físéireann/Screen Ireland and received stock funds from within the film.
Mbi will distribute films dramatically in North America, Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Venellax, Türkiye and India. Cinéart will be releasing it on Benelux in collaboration with Mubi.
