Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Committee Chairman Casey Wasserman said he “deeply regrets” past emails to Ghislaine Maxwell revealed in the latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein files from the Justice Department.
“I deeply regret my interactions with Ghislaine Maxwell over 20 years ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” Wasserman said in a statement to The New York Times. “I have never had any personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip on Epstein’s plane in 2002 as part of a Clinton Foundation delegation. I deeply regret having had any relationship with either of them.”
Maxwell was convicted of child sex trafficking charges related to Epstein and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022. On Friday, the Justice Department released more than 3 million new Epstein files, revealing earlier correspondence from 2003 that Mr. Wasserman sent to Mr. Maxwell.
“I think about you all the time, so how can I see you in a tight leather outfit?” Wasserman wrote one email to Maxwell. In another article, Maxwell offers Wasserman a massage that “drives men crazy.”
Mr. Wasserman has not been accused of wrongdoing or inappropriate conduct. But Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, a member of the Los Angeles Olympic Committee, called for Wasserman’s resignation.
“I think Casey Wasserman needs to resign,” she said, according to the LA Times. “Having him representing us on the world stage will distract our athletes and distract from the hard work needed to prepare for 2028.”
