“Dream Life” director Carol Morley is pre-production on feature film adaptations for her semi-autobiographical novel “7 Mile Out,” Variety learned.
First released in 2015, “Seven Mile Out” is based on a story of adolescents with issues following the suicide of his father. It tells the story of Anne, who lost her father in the Manchester music scene in the 1970s and 80s, after losing her father in tragic circumstances. The novel takes place over a seven-year period.
BAFTA nominations Morley writes and directs adaptations while longtime collaborator Cairo Cannon produces through the duo’s production vehicle Cannon and Morley Productions.
The film is scheduled to begin filming this November at its Manchester location.
Morley previously discussed how difficult it is to get the film off the ground. “For some reason, I didn’t think I had to do much in my book to transpose it onto the screen and adapt it to the screen,” she told the BBC in 2023.
Filmmaker credits include 2018’s “Out Of Blue” and 2014’s “The Falling” starring Mamie Gummer and Toby Jones. She is probably best known for her 2011 drama documentary, Dreams of A Life. Zawe Ashton stars as a woman whose body was not found for three years after she died alone in an apartment.
