Carla Sofia Gascón trolled Timothée Chalamet for his anti-ballet and opera comments.
On Monday, the Spanish actress reshared a meme on her Instagram Stories that showed Chalamet calling her to ask if the Oscars would force him to skip Sunday’s red carpet.
The meme refers to the resurfacing of her racist and anti-Muslim tweets shortly after Emilia Perez made history by becoming the first transgender woman to be nominated for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars.
“Are you a trans woman? Then don’t worry, Tim,” Gascon responded in the meme.
“And I love ballet shoes and I’ve seen ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ 10 times,” she continued. “I don’t know if that means anything. Good luck with the awards. Even though no one sees or hears me say it, they see and hear you, and people still seem to prefer to believe whatever the bad guy claims about me.”
Chalamet recently caused controversy when he said during a town hall event produced by Variety and CNN last month, “I don’t want to work in ballet or opera where you’re like, ‘Hey! No one cares about this anymore, let’s keep this thing going.'”
He quickly added: “Kudos to the ballet and opera people…the ratings just went down by 14 cents.”
His comments quickly went viral, and the 30-year-old was criticized by ballet and opera experts.
Misty Copeland applauded the “Dune” star and said her art “shouldn’t be compared” to other art forms.
“If it wasn’t for opera and ballet and their association in that medium, he wouldn’t have become an actor and he wouldn’t have gotten the chance to be a movie star,” the ballet prodigy explained on Sunday. “That means there is space for all of these media.”
“Jeopardy” and “View” also criticized Chalamet’s comments.
Gascón’s outcry comes a year after she missed most of the 2025 awards season after a series of racist tweets resurfaced.
In tweets posted between May 2016 and April 2023, the actress made some horrifying posts, including describing Muslims as “deeply disgusting humanity” and calling George Floyd a “drug addicted scammer.”
After this was revealed, the actress apologized via Netflix, saying, “As a member of a marginalized community, I am fully aware of this pain, and I deeply apologize to those I have caused.”
“All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe that light always triumphs over darkness.”
She then missed the 2025 SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, PGA Awards, Goya Awards, and BAFTA Awards, where she was nominated for Best Actress.
Gascón ultimately appeared at the 2025 Oscars, where “Emilia Perez” was nominated for 13 awards, but did not attend the red carpet.
Representatives for Gascón and the academy could not immediately be reached for comment by Page Six.
