The Cannes Film Festival will announce the lineup for its 79th edition on April 9th at a press conference in Paris hosted by the festival’s president, Iris Knobloch, and general director, Thierry Frémaux.
The next edition will be held from May 12th to 23rd, with South Korean film director Park Chan-wook, who will succeed Juliette Binoche, serving as the head of the jury.
Notable upcoming films include The Entertainment System Is Down, directed by Ruben Östlund and starring Keanu Reeves and Kirsten Dunst. Her Private Hell, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Charles Melton and Sophie Thatcher. Parallel Tales, directed by Asghar Farhadi, starring Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert. Digger, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, starring Tom Cruise, and Disclosure Day, directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor.
After Palme d’Or-winning Anora swept the five Academy Awards in 2025, Cannes has regained its reputation as a major launching pad for international films in the Oscar race. At this year’s Oscars, Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value”, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “The Secret Agent”, Oliver Lacks’ “Sirat” and three other Croisette alumni were nominated for a total of 19 in 12 categories.
