The composers of “Brutal”, “Nosferatu”, “Sentimental Value”, “Mickey 17”, and “Muffas: The Lion King” will be held at the 25th World Soundtrack Awards, one of the most famous events in film music.
The nomination was one of those announced on Thursday by Film Fest Gent and The World Soundtrack Academy. The awards ceremony will offer a flashy finale for filming the Fest Gentlemen.
Last month, film composer, television composer, and candidates for Best Original Song were announced. The candidates are currently being shown for the Discovery of the Year, Public Choice Awards, Game Music Awards and Belgian Film Composer of the Year.
The Discovery of the Year Award recognizes new voices in film and screen music. Among the candidates is Daniel Brunberg. Daniel Brunberg has already won an Oscar for his “Brutal” score at this year’s Academy Awards.
This marks the second nomination at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards, following previous nominations for Film Composer of the Year. The World Soundtrack Awards describe his score as “a soundscape inspired by raw, textured and jazz.”
Robin Karolan was also nominated. He constituted the brooding score for Robert Eggers’ silent-ela horror classic vibe remake, “Nosferatu.” “The Carolan, depicting from industrial noise and hypnotic choral elements, reminds us of Expressionist, a tragic, eerie atmosphere,” the World Soundtrack Award said.
John Jae Il, whose scores for “Parasite” and “Squid Game” (he was nominated for Emmy) gave him international acclaim, was nominated for “Mickey 17.” He continues his collaboration with director Bon Jundo, offering “sometimes solo piano and Grand Hollywood strings and beautifully romantic occasions.”
“A more lyrical and melodic approach” comes from Dave Metzger, who composed the sweeping score for Barry Jenkins’ Mufasa: The Lion King. Major, a longtime collaborator at Major Disney Productions and a veteran orchestrator of Broadway, animation and video games, “respectfully reinvented the musical legacy of “The Lion King” by bringing grandeur and vulnerability closer to the edge. ”
Finishing the list is Polish pianist, composer and vocalist Chania Lani, bringing “a blend of her signatures of classical, experimental and electronica” to “sentimental values.” A budding name on the scene, Rani offers a “fun and introspective score” for Joachim Trier’s family drama, capturing the themes of films of personal aspirations, memories, regrets and family reconciliation.
