Last week, Brooklyn Beckham released a scathing statement about his estrangement from his famous parents, with his wedding at the center of the rift.
But his wedding planner told Page Six he was “surprised” by the antics on his big day.
Beckham slammed everything from his mother Victoria “hijacking” his first dance with bride Nicola Peltz, to Victoria canceling plans to have her atelier make Peltz’s dress, to how his parents pressured Beckham to “relinquish the right to use my name” before the wedding.
But if there was tension behind the scenes, you’d never know it in the lead-up to the 2022 nuptials, says Preston Bailey, the celebrity wedding guru who orchestrated the big “I dos” for President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and tech billionaire Sean Parker, among others.
“I’m surprised he has this attitude towards his parents,” Bailey told Page Six. “As far as him being this kind and gentle, there’s no other Brooklynite I’ve ever met. . . . He was just a nice, normal guy who would say hi and chat.”
“I’ll tell you about my experience in Brooklyn,” he said. “He was very involved while we were planning, obviously down to the smallest detail of the design. I always found him to be a calm and decent guy. There was never any tension.”
Meanwhile, there are rumors that Peltz is controlling relationships, but Bailey says that’s not what he sees.
“I don’t remember her being bossy. I remember there was a lot of love between them,” he told Us.
“Any design was presented to Nicola, but it was important to her that it was approved by Brooklyn,” Ms Bailey said. “She wasn’t going to do anything without his approval.”
Bailey, who has worked with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Uma Thurman and Michael Douglas, had no contact with the Beckham family members, working with the couple via Zoom or at the Peltz family home in Palm Beach.
He was hired in April 2021, but had to leave after 11 months due to schedule overruns.
Brooklyn said in a statement that she “does not want to reconcile” with her parents.
A source previously told Page Six that the Beckhams were worried about their son.
“At this point, the Pelzes are in charge,” a Hollywood source claimed, “and there is a devastated family worried about their son, brother and grandchild.”
Bailey also planned Brooklyn and Peltz’s engagement party.
He previously told Page Six that the Peltz family is “nice people.” “These guys are important to me,” he said, adding, “Nicola was amazing.”
Peltz’s father, Nelson, sued his daughter’s second wedding planner over a $159,000 deposit after he was fired. Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba of Plan Design Events (PDE) filed a counterclaim alleging breach of contract.
“The parties believe that the contract dispute between Nelson Peltz and Plan Design should be resolved on agreed upon terms. As part of the settlement,[Plan Design]will make a contribution to the CARE Ukraine Crisis Fund in the names of Nicola and Brooklyn.[Plan Design]wishes Nicola and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham a happy and fruitful life,” Grijalva and Bragin told People. statement.
Victoria and David have not commented publicly on the rift.
A source told People magazine this week: “David and Victoria love Brooklyn and are afraid of losing their son. They will have him back soon.” Another source added: “The Beckhams have no intention of reconciling with their son unless Nicola is involved.”
Another source told the outlet: “It’s not an ultimatum he’s going to give in to,” and claimed Brooklyn has “got more support from his wife in the last three years than he’s had from his parents in his entire life.”
