Bristol Palin has revealed that her face still looks “distorted” a year after she was diagnosed with a neurological disorder that causes facial paralysis.
Palin, 35, shared a disappointing update on her Instagram Stories on Thursday during a Thanksgiving “fit check” with her 7-year-old daughter, Atlee.
“Black skinnies, black long sleeves, the same denim shirt I always wear, vintage Louis Vuitton,” she listed, before concluding, “And still with a distorted face.”
Sarah Palin’s daughter first opened up about her condition in January, saying it was “stress-induced.”
“I woke up nine days ago with a little weird feeling on my face,” the “Teen Mom OG” alum said on her Instagram Story at the time. “My mouth was pulled towards me and it felt a little strange.”
“Within a few hours, the whole left side of my face went numb, just numb,” she continued. “I couldn’t really blink, I couldn’t move the side of my face at all. It was just crazy.”
The former reality TV star then underwent a CT scan, underwent tests and was prescribed “steroids and other medications.”
She explained, “Nothing came back. They think I just got Bell’s palsy from stress or lack of sleep. I think it was caused by stress.”
Bristol said her face looked “crazy” but was already “much improved from how it first looked” and “starting to regain some of her senses”.
The mother-of-three said the process was “a little painful” but the discomfort was “a sign that things are starting to get better”.
Since then, Bristol has continued to share her progress with her facial paralysis with her followers, even though she hasn’t made the full recovery she had hoped for.
Although Bristol has been transparent about undergoing multiple cosmetic surgeries, she says she is now able to view her symptoms through a more positive lens and will never again “separate myself” based on her appearance.
“When I’m feeling anxious, I’m going to remember this and be grateful for a functioning face, because this has been tough,” she said.
