Both Alison Janney and Bradley Whitford have been promoted to normal status for the “The Diplomat” season 4 series.
The news comes ahead of the release of Season 3 of the critically acclaimed Netflix series, which will debut on October 16th. Janney was the first to attend the show in his second season. Season 4 updates will be announced in May and production is expected to begin this fall.

Johnny plays Vice President Grace Penn in the series and becomes the US president who enters season three after the death of President Rayburn (Michael McKeane). Whitford will play Grace’s husband, the first gentleman Todd Penn.
Keri Russell has returned in the leading role of “diplomat.” Official description of Season 3 State:
“Ambassador Kate Wyler (Russell) lives a certain nightmare where you get what you want. She hatched the terrorist plot and accused Grace Penn (Janney), and admits that she is dead after her job as VP. Deborah Kahn has created “Diplomatic” and is executive producer along with Russell, Janice Williams and Alex Graves. “The Diplomat” proved to be an instant hit on Netflix when it debuted in 2023. Shaw and Russell won numerous award nominations, including both Emmy and Golden Globes. Most recently, the show was nominated for the 2025 Emmys Best Drama Series, and Russell was nominated for Best Lead Actress in Drama.
