The boys in blue are back – well, some of them, anyway.
Amid rumors that Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck might make a cameo appearance in the Boston Blue spin-off, actor Mika Ammonsen remains tight-lipped.
Ammonsen, who plays Selleck’s grandson in the spinoff series, told Page Six that he has never met or spoken to Selleck, but teased that the cameo conversation was “definitely there.”
Selleck has been candid about his frustration with CBS, which canceled Blue Bloods in 2024, and expressed hesitation about appearing in a new series.
“There are a lot of fans who want it to happen, and there’s speculation,” Ammonsen said, though he notes that others who worked with Selleck, such as Donnie Wahlberg, have “a slightly more important voice.”
“I would love to have him there,” Ammonsen said. “I know how much the fans want him to be on the show.”
“Boston Blue” (airing Fridays at 10 p.m. on CBS) follows Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) and his son Sean (Amonsen) as they solve cases for the Boston Police Department and adjust to life in their new city.
The original drama ran for 14 seasons from 2010 to 2024 and followed the fictional Irish Catholic Reagan family, led by patriarch Frank (Selleck). Frank is the head of the New York City Police Department, and his son Danny (Wahlberg) was also an NYPD officer before moving to Boston for the spin-off.
Ammonsen joins the cast, replacing Andrew Terraciano, who played Sean in the original series.
“I haven’t been in touch with (Terraciano). I know Donnie has been in touch,” he said. “My phone was broken and we were degrees apart, so I’m sure we’ve heard each other’s feelings.”
There was some opposition to replacing Mr. Terraciano, but Mr. Ammonsen went along with it, ignoring Mr. Wahlberg’s advice to stay away from Reddit.
“He was like, ‘That’s going to affect you!'” he told us. “It doesn’t affect me at all. I’m like, ‘Well, whatever.’ What can I do? And underneath those posts (fan sentiment) there was a lot of positive reinforcement. So it’s never bothered me.”
Ammonsen said he and Wahlberg became very close on and off camera.
“He’s been great to me,” he explained, adding that spending time with the former New Kids on the Block member was “like a big piece of advice.”
“It’s more about watching him and understanding how he acts as a leader and producer.”
Ammonsen explained that there was a bit of a learning curve as it was his first time on the show as a series regular.
“I actually broke my wrist pretty early on and had a pretty bad shoulder injury as well,” he said.
It happened while running. “My boots came undone, I stumbled, and it really ate me up. We’re running, we’re making tackles, we’re doing all kinds of things. So it’s bound to happen.”
