Bill Belichick’s first victory in UNC football as head coach

Bill Belichick led the Tar Heels to their first victory of the season.

On Saturday, September 6th, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill defeated the 49ers 20-3 in front of a record crowd at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This marks UNC’s second victory over the Charlotte-based school after beating the 49ers in 2024 with a 38-20 score. He also marks Belichick’s first victory at the college level after joining the school as a football coach in December 2024.

The Tar Heels got off to a strong start, posting points on the board in just 59 seconds in the first quarter. The team later scored a field goal, giving the 49ers a 10-0 lead as the first quarter ended.

In the second quarter, the 49ers scored a field goal, and the Tar Heels scored a touchdown and then another point kick, pushing the score to 17-3 towards halftime.

Both teams failed to score in the third quarter.

After entering the final period with a 17-3 lead, the game ended with a tar heel securing a 20-3 victory.

“Winning is always good. It’s hard to win,” Belichick said after the match, chapelborough-by-chapelborough. “We saw it last week. You have to do a lot of things right. You have to do better than yours. We were lucky to do that tonight.”

Belichick’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, apparently not present on Saturday for her boyfriend, 73, and the Tar Heels to win.

This season started off with rocky beginnings on Monday, September 1st.

The stadium was packed with star-studded attendees such as Michael Jordan, Chase Rice, Roy Williams, Randy Moss and Hudson, but the game ended with a Carolina blown loss as the TCU horn frog scored 34 points.

“It was a great atmosphere here for tonight’s game. The fans had an incredible energy. They played competitively, but they couldn’t keep it up,” Belichick told reporters after the game.

“Obviously, we have a lot to do. All three phases of coaching, playing and game that you know, didn’t become what you need. And we know that we’re way better than that, so we need to show it on Saturdays and on the turn round.

Belichick left the New England Patriots and came to UNC after failing to find a new landing spot in the NFL. He says his father, who previously coached the US Naval Academy’s soccer team, is his inspiration for working as a college coaching job.

“I enjoy it. I’ve always wanted to be in college football,” Belichick told the Boston Globe last month. “I grew up in college football. This is a great university. It’s a great opportunity here. The kids are great, they work hard, they want good, they try.

He also spoke about what he likes about the university and the NFL, and dug out a thin dig of Robert Kraft, the owner of his former boss, Patriot.

“We don’t have an owner, we don’t have the owner’s son. We don’t have a cap. We have marketing and everything else that comes with everything else. It’s all. But it’s not at that level.” “We have a generic NFL team, owner, president, general manager, human resources director, college director, professional director, cap gai, other consultants, then head coach.

“I think we had a direct vision with fewer people when we had the best year in New England, and as it expanded, it became more difficult to succeed,” he added.

Next, UNC will face Richmond University on Saturday, September 13th at Kennan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
