In a rare interview, Beyoncé opened up about how her daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter helped her launch her hair care line, Secred. She also revealed that she secretly tested the new product during the Cowboy Carter tour. The singer gave more behind-the-scenes insight into how she kept her hairstyle intact while on tour, and revealed the real reason she has fans on stage.
As Beyoncé prepares to launch styling products from her hair care line, Cécred, she sat down with WWD for a very rare interview. She talked about the brand’s upcoming developments including Thermal Shield Mist, Volume Mousse, Strong Hold Gel, and Flexible Hold Hair Spray. She also revealed that her daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter played a special role in its creation.
Beyoncé tested the product herself during her Cowboy Carter tour, and eventually Blue and Rumi as well.
“Many of these products were designed out of a desire to solve my own problems with hair while on tour,” she began. “I don’t use relaxers, so I’m very careful about protecting my hair from heat damage when I style it. The weather on tour is unpredictable. Some shows are in pouring rain, crazy humidity, and 100 degree weather. You’re drenched in sweat and you have to get through a three-hour show in that style. I haven’t been able to find a styler that allows me to perform at the level I need without affecting the health of my hair.”
Products weren’t the only thing she used to protect her hair. The singer added that the fans on stage were there to do more than give her windswept hair.
“People think my fans on stage are just blowing for the drama or the hair, but the heat under the lights is real,” she said. “You need a product that’s strong enough to maintain your style while remaining weightless enough to fly. It took years of trial and error to find the best formula. We’ve tested each of these and use it on our daughters before everything: blow-drying, silk-pressing, and braiding. We went all the way back to the 2024 Super Bowl to test my mousse, which was a huge hit in Texas.”
The products will go on sale on Cécred’s website this Thursday.
