Bethenny Frankel is starting to think seriously about co-parenting.
The former “Real Housewives of New York City” star shared rare insight into her and ex-husband Jason Hoppy’s dynamic regarding their 16-year-old daughter Bryn Hoppy.
“I want my relationship with my daughter to work out, because we’re doing really well and it’s going to happen over the holidays,” Frankel admitted on Tuesday’s episode of the “Aspire” podcast. “That happens in a lot of different ways in our unit.”
The businessman claimed that there is “a lot of personal stuff” going on in Bryn’s “family relationships” at the moment.
As a result, Frankel wants her teens to be “more of a part of the community.”
“I want a unit, I want a family,” she confessed to host Emma Grede. “I want to be part of a team, and I believe in the power of purpose, and I believe in being connected to something, so I want to make sure I’m doing my job. I just want to have the means to connect with the audience and laugh as much as I do now.”
Frankel, 55, and Jason, 54, married in 2010 but separated in 2012.
The former lovers went through a bitter divorce and custody battle over Bryn.
Frankel and Jason reached a custody settlement in 2014, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2021.
At the time, a judge ultimately ruled that Frankel did not have to pay child support to his ex because Bryn lived with him most of the time.
“We share joint custody, so I’m not going to spend the rest of Bryn’s childhood fighting. Bryn knows that I love her, I want her, and we’re going to make every time we can spend together,” Jason said during a 2021 court hearing.
Last year, Frankel and Bryn moved to the Sunshine State.
“Bryn is Bethenny’s top priority and the decision to move to Florida was all about supporting her,” a source told Page Six at the time.
“This move reflects Bryn’s academic and athletic goals and was made with her physical and mental health as a top priority,” the source continued.
In a candid video, Frankel told fans that she and her mini-me were moving for “personal and professional reasons.”
“Something happened that made this the best and healthiest thing for me and my daughter,” she said in an Instagram clip.
Frankel called the move “the healthiest life choice” for her family.
That same year, the Skinnygirl founder opened up about her long divorce from Jason.
Frankel said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that despite her horrific childhood experiences, “nothing compares to my 10 years of divorce. Nothing.”
“It was very traumatic. It was a 10-year event in my life. My hair fell out. I didn’t think I was going to survive. I didn’t want to live,” she confessed to Cooper, choking up. “I had to do it because of my daughter. I literally thought, ‘I’ll never be happy again.'”
In 2017, Jason was arrested for allegedly emailing Frankel a series of abusive messages and showing up at Bryn’s school to threaten her.
He was charged with first-degree aggravated harassment, second-degree harassment and fourth-degree stalking. Jason denied the charges.
But Frankel made it clear that she tries “never to say anything bad” about Jason in front of Bryn.
“Just because you don’t say it in front of your child doesn’t mean they aren’t feeling it,” she said. “It goes a long way. Children will become aware and understand. You don’t have to tell them that. You don’t have to prove it to your children.”
