The dark Nordic noir crime thriller “The Pushover” has been acquired for North America by MHZ Networks in negotiations with international distribution company Reinvent Yellow Sales.
Amid strong sales, “The Pushover,” the second film adaptation of Lone Tiles’ crime novel after the hit “Fatal Crossing,” also closed in Poland (NC+) and Benelux (Lumiere Group).
Denmark’s DR and Sweden’s TV4 have pre-purchased the rights to the six-part series “The Pushover,” which is part of this year’s Berlinale Series Market Select.
“The Pushover” begins with the discovery of a woman’s corpse in a swimming pool in Copenhagen, on the upscale Danish Riviera in northern New Zealand. It turns out that her boyfriend is Tom, a notorious con artist, who claims that the death was an accident. “The Pushover,” like “Fatal Crossing,” centers on Nora Sand (Marie Sand Jondal), a hard-driving journalist who investigates Tom’s past in order to prove that a woman’s death was a homicide.
“This story feels authentic and grounded, driven by human flaws, moral ambiguity, and quiet tension rather than flashy developments. It’s captivating to the end, with an unpredictable ending that you can’t predict in advance,” said Reinvent Yellow’s Helen Oro.
Produced by Shuuto Arctic for Norwegian streamer Altibox, “The Pushover” reunites “Fatal Crossing” screenwriters Arne Berggren and Kristine Berg and helmer Magnus Berggren.
