Benedict Cumberbatch fights against type

In “The Roses,” a crab, napkin drawing and star-studded comedy cast, “The Roses,” director Jay Roach and writer Tony McNamara’s new dark comedy film, “The Roses,” asks for questions.

“Two artists? That’s incredibly difficult,” Alison Janney told Variety on Tuesday evening, reflecting on the premise of the film at its New York premiere.

Based on Warren Adler’s comedy anti-romance novel The War of the Roses, Searchlight’s photo film follows Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo Rose (Benedict Cumberbatch), who navigate marriages, raise twins, and balance careers as chefs and architects, respectively. However, as Ivy’s Crab Shack begins to thrive with buzz and success, Theo’s latest architectural venture crashes.

“The foundation of your relationship must be pretty strong to get through these things,” added Johnny, who plays the intimidating Deadpan divorce lawyer in the film. “And I think (what happens in this film) is the hardest thing to weather for anyone,” she said of her personal connection to her material: “I’ve never had a romantic partner for a long time. I think about me, ‘Well, what do you want to do?” People are my most annoying traits. ”

Where there is a fight on the screen, everything has fallen a lot more apart on the red carpet. There, Step and Repeat at Hudson Theatre is lined with bright red bulbs. Cumberbatch and Colman joined Johnny for a special event, including Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, Sunita Mani and Zoe Chao.

Cumberbatch is best known for his roles in dramas from his eras such as “Sherlock” and “Astonement,” and by playing Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he admitted that dark comedy looks different to him. In fact, he sees the role as a step towards something “new.”

“I’m trying to scare myself a little with something new,” Cumberbatch explained. “And I’ve been working with one of my best friends for a while, so both are nice and fresh.”

Cumberbatch, who also produced a film to open in theaters on August 29th, enjoys it as a rose that he loves so much that he hates his matching wit with Colman.

“I don’t know he’s very similar to the person I’ve played before,” Cumberbatch added. “He is very emotionally intuitive, impulsive, very practical, with depths of love, pain, pain and hatred. He is a good dresser and well-maintained.”

Initially, McNamara made reservations about working on a remake of Danny DeVito’s 1989 film, The War of the Roses.

“When they brought it to me, I was like, ‘It’s also a perfect movie, so I don’t want to do a remake. Why are you bothered?'” McNamara said. “But then, I spoke to Olivia and Ben, and there was the idea that we could make a show about marriage.

Indeed, Roach points out that the premise of the story is evergreen, sharing that he brought his personal insight into his romantic relationship with the project.

“I’m a very hypocrite. I get caught up in the fight over what my wife has done. My wife points out very correctly. “It continues in our films. They both accus each other of getting lost in their ego and their careers. They’re both guilty of being trashed, but they’re trying their best to be able.”
