It was announced at Japan’s Dragon Ball Genki Festival event that a large-scale remastered version of the popular anime series “Dragon Ball Super” will be broadcast for the first time in the fall of 2026 under the new title “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus.”
The Enhanced Edition features a comprehensive visual upgrade, including new animation cuts, revised sequences, a complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded voice acting, and a completely overhauled musical score and sound design. This project, which began several years ago, aims to more faithfully recreate creator Akira Toriyama’s original work using cutting-edge video technology.
The announcement was made during a live stage presentation at Makuhari Messe, where voice actors Masako Nozawa (Son Goku) and Koichi Yamadera (God of Destruction Beerus) appeared alongside executive producer Akio Iyoku.
At the event, a launch trailer and key visual were released, highlighting the improved production value. The story is that Beerus, the God of Destruction, wakes up from a long sleep after hearing the story of the Saiyan who defeated Frieza, aims for Earth, and sets up a showdown with Goku and his friends.
This enhanced series is a complete reimagining of the original TV anime Dragon Ball Super, featuring Toriyama’s original story, story concept, and character designs. The film offers a heightened sense of visual immersion, especially during battle scenes.
At the same event, a new anime series “Dragon Ball Super Galaxy Patrol” was also announced, following the “Space Survival Edition” that aired from 2015 to 2018.
The Dragon Ball series, which began in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, remains a global entertainment property spanning animation, movies, games, and merchandise. The franchise launched Dragon Ball Daima in 2024 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original manga.
