‘Baywatch’ reboot to star as former Marine turned lifeguard Thaddeus LaGrone

Newcomer Thaddeus LaGrone has been selected to join the cast of Fox’s upcoming reboot of Baywatch. The actor joins a growing cast that includes Stephen Amell, Jessica Belkin, and David Chokachi.

In the new Baywatch, Labrone will play Brad, who, according to his character description, “served two tours of duty in an elite division of the Marines before returning to Venice Beach to care for his sick father. Brad is a fearless, incredibly strong, solo rescuer. His challenge on Baywatch is that saving lives is not a solo effort; it’s a group effort, where asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. That’s a lesson Brad has to learn the hard way, thanks to the help of his Baywatch family. ”

LaGrone is a musician and former football player who has recently branched out into acting with roles in director Dan Fogelman’s Hulu NFL drama series “The Land” and the sports film “Mr. Irrelevant.”

In the new Baywatch series, scheduled to air on FOX during the 2026-2027 television season, Amell will play Hobie Buchannon, the son of original Baywatch protagonist Mitch Buchannon, with Belkin reprising his role as Charlie Vale and Chokachi reprising his role as Cody Madison from the original series.

Fox and producer Fremantle recently held a day-long casting call to find additional actors for the new show. Production is expected to begin this spring at Fox Studios properties in Venice Beach and Century City, but will remain local with the support of $21 million in state tax credits.

“Hobie Buchannon, the beloved wild child from the original series, follows in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch, and becomes the captain of Baywatch. Hobie’s world is forever changed when his unknown daughter, Charlie, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and join her father as a Baywatch lifeguard. OG heartthrob Cody Madison is now the captain of Baywatch. He runs Shoreline. Unofficially, he works at Baywatch’s official bar and grill and still wears red trunks on his occasional lifesaving shift, providing a second home to his fellow lifeguards and a friend and mentor who always gives them free wings after the big save.

In September 2025, Fox decided to order 12 episodes of Baywatch for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. Matt Nix will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the reboot alongside McG, Michael Burke, Greg Bonnan, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz. McG will also direct the series premiere episode.

The series is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. Fox Entertainment Global will retain domestic distribution rights, while Fremantle will manage international sales.

LaGrone is repped by Brave Artists Management and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
