Ritwik Bhowmik jumps from streaming to cinemas in “Abhootpurva,” a romantic horror comedy that serves as a theatrical outing for the “Bandish Bandits” star maiden.
The genre hybrid project is called Not Out Entertainment by producer Khyati Madaan and is also produced by Sumit Kumar Mishra. The lenses are scheduled to begin in November.
The story unfolded in Agra in the 1990s, interweaving comedic beats with supernatural horror and romantic elements. Madhan’s productions aim to capture the charm of the times, while incorporating famous monuments as mere scenery. The Taj Mahal acts as an integral story component of Reid’s romantic journey. Period-friendly musical elements help to establish a nostalgic atmosphere.
Bhowmik has gained industry recognition through his lead performance in the Prime Video Music drama “Bandish Bandits.” His subsequent streaming work includes roles for “The Whistleblower”, “Modern Love Mumbai” and “Maja Ma.”
This represents the second major title from entertainment that is not entertainment this year, following news from Ahan Shetty-led horror project.
“‘Abhootpurva’ is a film that’s very close to my heart,” said producer Madhan. “It’s set in the Agra of the 90s. Love is pure, simple and feels bigger than life. With a touch of romance, homer, nostalgia and supernatural, the film is designed as a true big screen experience.
Before launching her production venture, Madhan took senior roles in several prominent Indian entertainment companies, including Red Chillies Entertainment, Disney India and Madoka Films Stint. Her current development pipeline features projects across genres, including character-driven drama by Habib Faisal, the filmmaker behind “Do Dooni Chaar” and “Ishaqzaade.”
