Ayo Edebiri says Metoo, Black Lives Matter not dead in a nervous interview

Ayo Edebiri has been praised on social media for how she handled the moment of an unpleasant interview while promoting her new film, After the Hunt, at the Venice Film Festival. The winners of “The Bear” Emmy were joined by co-stars Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield for a chat with Artslife TV, but interviewers asked Roberts and Garfield to consider the status of Hollywood’s Black Lives Matter and #MeToo.

The interviewer asked Garfield and Roberts what to expect in Hollywood after the #MeToo movement and BlackLife Matter are complete. Roberts was immediately confused and replied, “Can I repeat it? And put on your sunglasses and don’t know which of us you’re talking about.” The interviewer once again said her questions were for Garfield and Roberts. She wanted to know what they thought about Hollywood now that #MeToo and Black Lives Matter’s moves are “finished.” The interviewer also asked, “If you lose something in a politically correct era.”

“I know it’s not for me. I don’t know if it’s intentional or not… (but) I don’t think it’s finished,” inserts a visibly shocked Edebili. “I don’t think it’s done at all. There may not be much hashtags used, but I think there’s a beautiful, important job that activists, every day people, are doing.

Garfield supported Edebili by saying both “movement is still absolutely alive.” Edebili adds:

Edebili, Garfield and Roberts star in After the Hunt by Luca Guadagnino, who received a divisive response after the world premiere of Venice. The film focuses on a university professor (Roberts) who has to face her past after a star student (Edebili) condemns one of her university colleagues (Garfield) accuses her of sexual assault.

“After the Hunt” is set to open the New York Film Festival later this month. It will then open in theaters on October 10th from Amazon MGM.
