Ashton Kutcher claims he was fired from Gucci because he was overweight when he was a model.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, “The Beauty” star recalled booking a campaign with Tom Ford’s luxury design firm at the time and flying to Italy for the accompanying shoot.
“Then I showed up and flew to Italy for a runway show, and he put me in what looked like a pink Speedo,” the “That ’70s Show” alum told the outlet, noting that he weighed “just” 178 pounds at the time.
Ford “was like, ‘He’s too fat,'” he recalled. And then I got fired. ”
Kutcher, now 47, confessed that he and the iconic designer look back on the incident with amusement.
“I laugh with him about that now, but he said, ‘You’re too fat.’ I thought, ‘Dude, I was 178 pounds!’ What are you talking about? ” Kutcher laughed.
He then defended Ford’s decision to remove himself from the fashion campaign.
“He had something he wanted, something he wanted to see, and in his eyes it was the right thing,” the actor explained.
“It didn’t mean I was inferior, but it just meant I wasn’t that good to him in that moment.”
A representative for Gucci did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Kutcher said she started modeling around the age of 19 and explained that even “some of the most beautiful people in the world” experience anxiety.
“What I quickly realized was that everyone has anxiety,” he said of working as a professional model.
“Guys, if you look in the mirror long enough, you’ll find things you don’t like, things you think could be better, or things you think could be different.”
Last year, Kutcher admitted that his model appearance sometimes actually hurt his acting career.
“There are roles I’ve gotten because of the way I look, and there’s roles I haven’t gotten because of the way I look,” he said during a panel discussion at New York Comic Con in October. “It can be frustrating sometimes.”
Set to be released on FX on January 21st, “The Beauty” revolves around a sexually transmitted disease that causes aesthetic improvement, but ultimately proves to be fatal, raising the question of how to achieve physical perfection.
Kutcher praised his ex-wife’s performance in the acclaimed body horror film, noting the show’s possible similarities to Demi Moore’s Substance.
“I mean, one is Demi’s performance in ‘Substance,’ which obviously she’s gotten tremendous praise for,” he said, noting that Moore was nominated for an Oscar for the role.
“I’m so proud of her, she killed it.”
