“Sinners” (Hannah Beachler), “Frankenstein” (Tamara Deverell), “Wicked: For Good” (Nathan Crowley) and “F1” (Ben Munro and Mark Tyldesley) are among the films nominated for the Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) 30th Annual Excellence in Production Design Award in the Motion Picture, Television, Commercial and Music Video category.

Also nominated are production designers who worked on the music videos for Taylor Swift’s “Ophelia’s Destiny” (Ethan Tobman) and Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” (Wesley Goodrich).

ADG divides live-action films into three categories: period films, fantasy feature films, and contemporary feature films. “Hamnet” (Fiona Crombie), “Marty Supreme” (Jack Fisk) and “The Phoenician Plot” (Adam Stockhausen) round out the period drama category.

In the fantasy feature race, nominations include Avatar: Fire and Ash (Dylan Cole, Ben Proctor), Fantastic Four: First Steps (Kasra Farahani), Mickey 17 (Fiona Crombie), Superman (Beth Mickle) and last year’s winner Wicked: For Good (Crowley).

Nominated in the contemporary film category are the production designers of Bugonia (James Price), F1 (Ben Munro, Mark Tyldesley), Mission: Impossible (Gary Freeman), One Battle After Another (Florencia Martin) and Wake Up Deadman (Rick Heinrich).

In the television category, the nominated shows include “The Bear,” “Stranger Things,” and “The Studio.”

For the past three years, ADG winners have rubbed shoulders with production design Oscar winners. Last year’s ADG winner “Wicked” won an Oscar. Prior to that, “Poor Things” (Shona Heath and James Price) and “Dune” (Patrice Vermette and Zussanna Sipos) also won Oscars for production design.

The event will be produced by Megan Elizabeth Bell, Michael Allen Glover and Tom Wilkins.
“In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Excellence in Production Design Awards, we celebrate not only the outstanding achievements of the past year, but also three decades of visionary artistry that has defined visual storytelling in film and television,” said Art Directors Guild President Dina Lipton. “This milestone pays tribute to the art directors, illustrators, storyboard artists, set designers, set designers, graphic artists and all the creative people who work in the art sector and continue to captivate and inspire audiences around the world.”

Bell, Glover and Wilkins said, “This 30th annual ADG Awards recognizes the incredible creativity and innovation that advances production design and commemorates meaningful moments in the industry’s history. We are honored to bring together the creative community to celebrate this year’s outstanding works across film, television and beyond, and to pay tribute to legendary artists whose lifetime contributions helped shape the art and craft of our profession.”

The ceremony will be held on February 28th at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.
