Arnold Schwarzenegger split the unpleasant joke that his ex-wife, Maria Schreiber, was taking away money during their long divorce.
The “Terminator” star created the QUIP while honoring Chris Wallace at the Journalist Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony on Thursday.
“I know a lot about journalists. I’ve been interviewed – you can imagine in my lifetime by thousands of journalists,” the former California governor shared. “But not only that, I was married to a journalist too.”
Schwarzenegger said, “The only difference between Chris and Maria is that Chris never took half of my money.”
The longtime ABC reporter actor, Schreiber married for nearly 25 years and shared four children: Katherine, 35, Christina, 34, 32, Christopher, 27.
The couple, who married in 1986, parted ways in 2011 amid a tragic report about Schwarzenegger’s affair.
The “Total Recall” star later confirmed that he would father his son, Joseph Baena, along with former family housekeeper Mildred “Patty” Baena.
Joseph was born within a few days of his brother Christopher.
Schwarzenegger and Schreiber’s divorce was finalized in December 2021, 10 years after the separation.
He later owned to his flaws.
“It was my F-K Up. It was my mistake,” he emphasized in a 2023 interview that he was still a “good friend” with Schreiber and “we’re very proud of the way we raised our children.”
“We had this drama,” he explained.
He added, “If there’s an Oscar for a way to handle divorce, Maria and I should get it to have the least impact on our children.”
Schreiber writes about the aftermath of his affair in his poetry book, “I Am Maria.”
“It broke my heart, it broke my mind, it broke my spirit, it broke my leftovers,” she wrote. “To be honest, it was brutal and I was terrified.”
