What you need to know

Ariana Grande posted the words, “Thank you Singapore β™‘ I love you 🫧” on Friday, November 14th. This was after a man accosted her on the red carpet for Wicked: For Good on Thursday the 13th, and the man (identified as Johnson Wen, 26) was charged with public nuisance by a Singapore court.

Ariana Grande is sending love to Singapore after a man accosted her during the premiere of her new movie Wicked: For Good.

On Thursday, November 13, Grande, 32, who plays Glinda in the long-awaited sequel, was spotted walking along the Yellow Brick Road carpet at Universal Studios Singapore with co-stars Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Goldblum when a man wearing a white shirt and shorts sprinted toward her, turned and grabbed her.

Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the movie, then moved toward the altercation and got between Grande and the man. Security then intervened and moved the intruder away from Grande, who appeared visibly shaken by the incident.

According to the BBC, the Australian man in question, identified as Johnson Wen, 26, was charged with public nuisance by a Singapore court on Friday, November 14.

A fan attacked the singer on the red carpet at the premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore.

Mr Wen appeared in court via video link on Friday. He has no legal representation and is expected to plead guilty on Monday, November 17, according to Singapore newspaper The Straits Times.

Spokespeople for Singapore’s courts and the Singapore Police Force did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for confirmation and additional information.

Aside from the incident, Grande posted several images from the film’s press tour on Friday and spoke about her love for the country on Instagram.

In several snaps, the singer was seen wearing a dazzling pink Balenciaga dress, while in another she was seen wearing a glittering Thom Browne dress from the Singapore premiere. The carousel of images also included Grande posing for a selfie while wearing a mask under her eyes.

The ‘7 Rings’ hitmaker captioned the post: “Thank you Singapore β™‘ I love you 🫧.”

Red carpet crusher Wen, who goes by the nickname “Pajama Man” online, recorded attending a premiere before running with Grande.

“Dear Ariana Grande, thank you for letting me walk the yellow carpet with you ❀️,” she said in an Instagram post.

Wen is known for disrupting celebrity events and making headlines. In June, he jumped on stage with a shocked-looking Katy Perry, and in August he stormed into The Weeknd’s show, forcing security to rush him off stage.

“After being arrested, I’m free,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram Story after his arrest on Thursday.

Grande previously spoke about her battle with PTSD after the 2017 Manchester concert bombing that killed 22 people.

“Yes, this is real. I know that family and fans and everyone who was there was going through a tremendous amount as well,” Grande told British Vogue in 2018. “It’s hard to talk because so many people have suffered such a profound and tremendous loss…I feel like I shouldn’t even talk about my experience. Like I shouldn’t say anything at all. I don’t think I’ll ever know how to talk about this without crying.”

In the same interview, she revealed that she continues to struggle with anxiety.

“I think a lot of people have anxiety, especially right now…I have anxiety, too,” she said at the time. “I’ve always had anxiety. I never really talked about it because I thought everyone had anxiety, but when I got home from tour[in September 2017]I think it was the most severe it’s ever been.”
