Who needs floating bubbles when you have butterflies?
Ariana Grande took to the stage on NBC’s “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” special wearing a signature Robert Ng ballgown that looked ready to take off.
The blush pink creation was adorned with a three-dimensional constellation of butterflies across the strapless bodice and voluminous skirt.
The 32-year-old Oscar nominee added a fairy-tale effect with sheer pink gloves and matching butterflies adorning her ears, fingers, biceps and wrists.
“One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen,” Grande’s stylist Law Roach captioned a post of the look on Instagram. “Ali is wearing custom @robertwun. Thank you Robert and the team for making our dreams come true! 💕💕💕”
Roach’s post included a close-up of one of the earrings, which mimic the look of a butterfly’s wings and feature delicate antennae.
Hong Kong-born, London-based designer Wang is known for her theatrical take on haute couture and has outfitted everyone from Beyoncé to Lady Gaga and, most recently, Julia Fox.
Butterflies are a recurring motif in his work, particularly in his fall 2024 collection Time, where butterflies perch on the brim of a hat or the lapel of a coat, symbolizing transformation and hope.
The NBC special, taped on September 24 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, reunited Grande with co-star Cynthia Erivo and the rest of the Wicked cast.
The two-hour event aired on Thursday, just two weeks before Wicked: For Good hits theaters on November 21st. The special program is currently streaming on Peacock.
Grande wore a variety of looks that night. Roach also styled her in a silver Alexander McQueen dress with accordion pleats from the label’s fall 2005 collection and a 1940s dress by Gilbert Adrian, the MGM costume designer behind the original film “The Wizard of Oz.”
The special featured performances of songs from both “Wicked” films, as well as a show-stopping rendition of “For Good” by Grande, Erivo and original Broadway stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.
