Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo said their final goodbyes to the Land of Oz on Friday, following the release of Wicked: For Good in theaters over the weekend.
Both actresses posted emotional tributes and behind-the-scenes footage on social media, saying goodbye to beloved characters Glinda and Elphaba from Jon M. Chu’s musical film.
Grande posted a series of never-before-seen moments from the set, including arriving at her trailer, transforming into Glinda, and examining her pink dress.
“Thank you, sweet Glinda, for everything,” Grande wrote on Instagram. “I will always love you…’Wicked: For Good’ is in theaters now.”
Erivo praised her character Elphaba in a lengthy Instagram post, in which she also shared a series of behind-the-scenes stories. She shared images of herself soaring through the air on Elphaba’s broom, walking down a yellow brick road, standing outside her trailer and posing with many of her co-stars.
“I could write an essay, a poem, a piece of Shakespearean prose explaining what this journey means to me, what this time has taught me, what it has given me,” Erivo captioned the post. “I could try to give a measure to the love I felt and experienced. I could try to give a number to the stories I’ve heard. The truth is, numbers are too small and words aren’t enough. So I’ll just say this.”
She continued, “Take my hand and walk with me to the end of this road paved with gold, and hopefully what I found, you may find too. Thank you for making me your Elphaba. With love, C.”
In addition to the post they shared, the official Wicked account paid tribute to Glinda and Elphaba by sharing a video montage of Grande and Erivo hugging and dancing on the set of Wicked: For Good with the caption, “A friendship that changed us forever.”
