One of Argentina’s most international production companies, Rei Pictures has launched major international expansions, including new offices in Spain and Mexico, and is launching a push to television, talent management and production services.
Previously known as Rei Cine, Rei Pictures also produced Lucrecia Martel’s Venice world premiere “Landmark” (Nuestra Tierra) and Martel’s historic drama “Zama” as well as the winners of the 2024 Venice competition entry “Kill the Jockey” and Kinre the Fionner “The Settlers” and Sundance Prize Prize for Fear.
Company is co-producer of Amalia Ulman’s Culture Clash Comedy “Magic Farm.”
REI has partnered with Primo Content, a leading commercial company with former posts in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Colombia and Uruguay to promote expansion, and US Primo has produced Gaston Solniki’s “The Souffle” that will play like a “landmark” from the competition in Venice this year. Primo also supported Cannes winner “The Secret Agent” on Mendonsa Fillo and Ira Sachs’ “Peter Fujar’s Day.”
For a long time, even before the government of Argentina’s Javier Mirei significantly reduced film incentives, geographical and sectoral diversification represents a turning point in ray photography, consistent with a wider change in the entertainment landscape of Latin America.
The volatility of the local public sector support system makes it difficult for companies to promote the core production strategy of REI Pictures, a multi-title co-production, but it relies on one country.
The partnership with Primo allows the company to leverage its solid track record while expanding to Mexico and relatively incentive Spain. With the strengthening of the business, REI Pictures is set to support the development and production of the original series, grow its talent management division, and provide full-scale production services for international filming projects in Latin America and Spain.
The new Move is a one-stop creative and production powerhouse for REI to work with talent to deliver content in a variety of formats. The newly established offices in Madrid and Mexico City serve as the strategic foundation for global operational and nurturing partnerships with creatives and businesses across Europe and the United States. REI Pictures has already established a rich network of potential partners from past co-productions.
“We are excited to open doors to partners such as Primo, who share our values and mission of defending original voices in Latin America and today in Europe. We are confident that this exciting partnership will create fresh and unexpected opportunities to empower the community of talent at the heart of REI’s photography.”
“We have long admired Ray Pictures’ editing lines and vision for the film, so when we tried to expand into feature films, they were natural partners. We are excited to support Ray’s growth on the international stage and cultivate a unified network of talent from both companies.
