“The Boys” villain Antony Starr will next star in the Netflix series “Breakers,” written by the “Somewhere Boy” creator and “Baby Reindeer” production company.
“The Breakers” follows two best friends from America who go on a backpacking trip to Australia. There, they encounter a community of seemingly perfect surfers and are drawn in by their leader, a charismatic and mysterious man named Brando (Star).
Production on the series has already begun in Western Australia, with filming expected to wrap up in June. Breakers is the first Netflix series to be filmed in Western Australia and is supported by local tax incentives.
Pete Jackson (The Death of Bunny Munroe, Somewhere Boy) is the series’ writer, with Mary Nye (Say Nothing, Industry) and Ng Chun Ping (What It Feels Like for a Girl, Fam) directing.
The show is produced by BBC Studios-owned Clerkenwell Films, which also produced Baby Reindeer and The End Of The F***ing World. This show is produced in association with BBC Studio Productions Australia. Executive producers are Gavin O’Grady, Petra Freed, Wim de Grief and Jackson.
Star has been on Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys” for five seasons, with the final season set to air in April. He recently finished production on the neon Sammo Lives, in which he plays Andy Warhol. His other credits include Netflix’s “Banshee,” Amazon’s “G20,” “Cobweb” and “American Gothic.” He also recently had a cameo in Apple TV’s Seth Rogen comedy “The Studio,” playing a fictional version of himself.
