Annie Award Winner: Leading role in “KPop Demon Hunters”

KPop Demon Hunters won 10 times at the 53rd Annie Awards, taking home trophies such as Best Picture, Best Character Animation, Best Director, and Best Production Design. The award, considered the animation world’s highest honor, was presented Saturday at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles.

Hugo Bienvenu’s “Arco” won the independent feature award, while Adult Swim’s “Common Side Effects” and Netflix’s “Love, Death + Robots” led the TV category with four and three wins respectively. “Common Side Effects” won the titles of Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Mature Television/Media, and Best Director, while “Love, Death and Robots” won Best Character Design, Best Production Design, and Best Storyboard.

Jury awards were also presented, with the Windsor MacKay Award going to Michael Dudok de Wit, Christopher Miller, Phil Lord and Chris Saunders, and the June Foray Award going to Sandy Ravins. The Ub Iwerks Award for technological advances that have impacted the animation industry was presented to Wacom, and the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to LightBox Expo. ASIFA-Hollywood Achievement Award presented to Jeffrey New and Hayley Mirren Doucitt

Each year, the Annie Awards celebrate excellence in animation and recognize outstanding achievements by individual artists and the animation industry as a whole.
