Anne Hathaway had a subtle hand in the casting of The Devil Wears Prada 2.
Co-star Meryl Streep, who reprises her role as Miranda Priestly in the sequel, told Harper’s Bazaar that while filming the Dolce & Gabanna fashion show during Milan Fashion Week, she was “blown away by how beautiful and young the models were, as well as how incredibly thin they were.”
Streep explained, “I thought everything had been resolved years ago. Annie also figured that out and went straight to the producers about that and assured them that the show models we assembled for the movie weren’t as skeletal.”
“She’s a stand-up girl,” Streep added.
There’s a lot of pressure on the film, which opens May 1, 20 years after the original.
Hathaway said that the main difference between the sequel and the original version was that the former was made “with in mind”.
The publication said, “The first film was such an unknown that fashion brands were initially hesitant to participate and lend clothes.”
Now, not only are designers working hard to bring the next chapter of the story to life, and the characters are decked out head-to-toe in designers and jewelry, but the cast and crew are being chased by fans on the streets of New York.
“Annie kept her cool, but I was upset,” Streep said, recalling the “frenzy of attention that engulfed” the piece.
But there was a moment when Hathaway panicked. That’s when I fell down on set.
“I was aware that I was falling, that I was being photographed, and I was also aware that their hearts were jumping up into their throats, as were many of the people on the crew. So I had to get up quickly to let them know I was okay,” he said. However, the star later told director David Frankel, “Oh, no. I’m news.”
