Anna Camp has apologized for sharing social media posts about “Scream 7” touting the film’s commercial success amid boycotts following the firing of former series star Melissa Barrera.
Camp, who plays Jessica Borden in Scream 7, reposted an image on her Instagram Story to Taylor Swift’s “Karma” that read, “The boycott didn’t work. The hate from the critics didn’t work. The pathetic leaks didn’t work. What did work was the audience showing up and making the movie a success.”
Camp has since deleted the post and wrote in a follow-up statement that the incident “does not reflect my personal beliefs.” “I realized that I had reposted someone else’s article that did not reflect my personal beliefs,” Camp wrote to X. “I never meant any harm and I have since deleted the repost. I apologize to anyone affected.”
Scream fans have called for a boycott of the seventh installment after Barrera was fired from the long-running slasher series over social media posts Spyglass deemed anti-Semitic about the Israel-Hamas war. Pro-Palestinian advocates protested at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles last week, chanting phrases such as “Paramount, Paramount, what do you say?” And “Palestine will live forever!”
Despite vocal backlash, Scream 7 grossed $64.1 million domestically and $97 million worldwide, setting a weekend opening record for the 30-year-old franchise. Directed by Scream veteran Kevin Williamson and starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Matthew Lillard, the film tells the bloody story of Ghostface, a new killer targeting Campbell’s unkillable Sidney Prescott’s daughter.
