Beloved all over the world for books, cartoon strips, TV series and films, Moomin has come to the big screen. Moomin characters and Annapurna announced today that they will bring the creatures back to life by the above Rebecca Sugar (“Stephen Universe”) with director and writing features. This is the first Moomin movie to be produced in the US
It will be produced by Julia Pistor, who was behind the animation features, including the “The Spongebob Squarepants” and “The Rugrats” movies.
Created during World War II by Finnish artist and writer Tov Jansson, Moomin is a calm, round troll that lives in Moomin Valley, a magical place where adventures are always around the corner and the value of friendship, courage and respect is always present.
Moomins’ books, based on the film, have been published in over 60 languages and have television adaptations in 120 countries. The Moomin comic strip, depicted by Jansson, was syndicated in 40 countries.

Sugar is an animator, screenwriter, producer, singer and songwriter best known as the creator of the Emmy nominated Grado and Peabody Award-winning series “Steven Universe” and the animated musical “Steven Universe: Film.” She recently released her new album, “Lonely Magic.”
Rebecca Sugar is represented by the UTA and the fourth wall.
